Forecast for Sunday 02.01: Update

  • Winter Storm Warning in effect...

The heaviest snow is expected this afternoon with another period of heavy snow likely later this evening. Snowfall will taper off overnight, but the wind will steadily increase through the night, leading to blowing and drifting snow. Blizzard conditions may develop as the wind picks up at night, with zero visibility a possibility. Light rain is possible at times, mainly south of Fort Wayne, where snow totals may be slightly reduced.
Daytime high: 32.
Evening temperatures: teens (wind chills near 0).
Storm total snow accumulation: 8-15 inches.


Outlook: Colder temperatures expected next week.

WIND ADVISORY,  WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS
AFTERNOON TO 8 PM THIS EVENING.

 * WINDS:  SOUTHWEST 25 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH. ISOLATED
   GUSTS TO 50 MPH POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON INTO EARLY EVENING.

 * IMPACTS:  TRAVEL ON MOST ROADWAYS WILL BECOME DIFFICULT AT
   TIMES,  ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. LOOSE OBJECTS MAY
   BE BLOWN AROUND AND ONTO STREETS. LARGE LIMBS MAY FALL AND
   ISOLATED POWER OUTAGES ARE POSSIBLE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT SUSTAINED WINDS OF 30 MPH,  OR GUSTS
OVER 45 MPH ARE EXPECTED. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING
DIFFICULT,  ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA
CAUTION.

Forecast for Wednesday 03.12: Update


Heavy snow this morning; chance of thundersnow. Gusty winds with blowing snow. The snow will continue through midday then taper off in the afternoon. Record cold temperatures overnight.
Storm total snow accumulation: 5-8 inches.
Morning temperatures: near 30.
Afternoon temperatures: 20s.
Evening temperatures: teens.
Overnight temperatures: near 0.


Outlook: Colder on Thursday with wind chills near -15 in the morning.

Temperatures will remain subzero through Wednesday morning; record-breaking low temperatures are likely. Dangerously cold wind chills are also expected, ranging from -20 to -35. The most extreme cold is expected Tuesday.

Quick-hitting heavy snow squalls; white-out conditions overnight. Windy with blowing and drifting snow likely.

Outlook: WIND CHILL WARNING Monday through Wednesday...
An outbreak of extreme cold is expected during the first half of the week, and it will rival the intensity of the cold experienced earlier this month. Temperatures will be subzero from Monday night through Wednesday morning; record-breaking low temperatures are likely. Dangerously cold wind chills are also expected, ranging from -20 to -40. The most extreme cold is expected Monday night into Tuesday.

Forecast for Friday 01.24: Update

 
Very cold and windy, with blowing and drifting snow. Snow likely overnight.
Nighttime snow accumulation: 1-3 inches.
Afternoon temperatures: upper teens (wind chill -5 to -15).


Weekend Outlook: Scattered snow showers on Saturday. Another 1-3 inches of snow is possible on Sunday. Very cold through next week, with record low temperatures possible.

Forecast for Monday 01.06: UPDATE


Extremely cold. Brisk winds will lead to dangerous wind chills and continuous drifting snow.
Temperatures: dropping to -13, breaking the 1970 record of -12. (Wind chills between -35 and -45)


Outlook: Extremely cold and sub-zero temperatures are expected to last from through Wednesday morning. This combined with brisk winds will cause wind chills to drop to very dangerous levels, between -25 and -35 at times. Any exposed skin can suffer frostbite within minutes under these conditions. Some blowing and drifting snow may also continue.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER...

 * MOST OF THE ACCUMULATING SNOW HAS ENDED BUT GUSTY NORTHWEST
   WINDS OF 20 TO 35 MPH WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 40 MPH ARE
   EXPECTED TODAY. THIS WILL CAUSE SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND
   DRIFTING SNOW WHICH WILL LIKELY KEEP MANY ROADS IMPASSABLE OR
   RESTRICTED TO SINGLE LANES.

 * TEMPERATURES WILL DROP DRASTICALLY THROUGH THE DAY WITH
   READINGS DROPPING INTO THE TEENS BELOW ZERO. DEADLY WIND
   CHILLS BETWEEN 30 BELOW AND 45 BELOW ZERO CAN BE EXPECTED
   THROUGH TUESDAY.

IMPACTS...

 * ROADS ARE SNOW COVERED,  SLICK AND HAZARDOUS. SIGNIFICANT
   DRIFTING SNOW WILL CAUSE ROADWAYS TO BE PARTIALLY OR FULLY
   IMPASSABLE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME.

 * VISIBILITIES MAY BE REDUCED AT TIMES DUE TO THE BLOWING SNOW.
   NEAR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS MAY OCCUR.

 * FROST BITE AND HYPOTHERMIA WILL OCCUR IN A MATTER OF MINUTES
   WITH THESE EXPECTED WIND CHILLS. DEATH WILL ALSO OCCUR IF
   PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE
EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW
ALONG WITH DEADLY WIND CHILLS ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL
DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL,  KEEP
AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT,  FOOD,  AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE
OF AN EMERGENCY.

A WIND CHILL WARNING MEANS THE COMBINATION OF VERY COLD AIR AND
STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILL VALUES. THIS
WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA OR DEATH IF
PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

Light snow likely. Blustery with blowing and drifting snow.
Total snow accumulation: around 1 inch.
Afternoon high: 25 (wind chill around 15).


Outlook: Gradually warming up this week. Rain likely Thursday night into Friday, possibly changing to ice or snow by the weekend. Look for updates later this week.
